Snowflakes for Sandy Hook
The Sandy Hook Parent Teacher Association put out the call for hand-crafted snowflakes to create a winter wonderland in the Chalk Hill School, where Sandy Hook students are now attending class, according to the PTA’s website.Moore's customers were able to find out about this request on our December 27, 2012 blog, as well as free downloadable Anita Goodesign snowflake designs for their machines should they wish to create some snowflakes to send. Many customers generously created snowflakes and dropped them off at their local Moore's location to be delivered to the Sandy Hook PTA. Thank you to all who participated!
The snowflake response had far exceeded the PTA's expectations:
"We have received more than a million snowflakes of all shapes, sizes and forms from schools, PTAs, community centers, and families around the world. Sandy Hook has been the recipient of a blizzard of support, and while we can no longer accept any additional snowflakes, we couldn't be more thankful for everyone's good wishes."
Miele Red Cross Corporate Giving
PRINCETON, NJ (November, 2012) – In the wake of the unthinkable devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, Miele began a campaign to aid victims of the storm. Miele pledged a portion of the proceeds from the sale of every vacuum cleaner sold between November 19th and December 19th to the American Red Cross. They extended this support by reaching out to their retail partners asking for their participation in the fundraising efforts. Moore's stepped up to the challenge and volunteered to match Meile's donation per vacuum sold during this timeframe. With the support of Miele and all of its retail partners, they were able to raise $145,000 for the American Red Cross. These funds will provide food, shelter and emotional support to those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
Brownies Create Burrito Pillowcases
ORANGE, CA (November, 2012) – Dee Strickler led two troops of Brownies at the Moore's Orange Location in creating a burrito pillowcase. Besides having a great time and learning the basics of sewing, they all earned their sewing badge at the end of the class. And, had a cute pillowcase to remember it by!
Miss City of Orange Scholarship Pageant
ORANGE, CA (November, 2012) – Cindy Calvo, store manager from our Orange location, volunteers and has volunteered for the past five years at the Miss City of Orange Scholarship Pageant where girls compete for scholarship dollars with poise, talent, physical fitness and beauty. All girls are seniors in high school or are attending local colleges. Each girl has a platform they stand for and they volunteer their time to that platform. Moore's of Orange sponsored Launa Kressin this year. She plays the viola (and quite beautifully). Although she did not win, we are very proud of how she did in the interview and talent portions, where she excelled! Congratulations, Launa!
