Sewing Class Navigation
The goal of this class is to build upon the beginner quilters skills, to learn new techniques and have a cute quilt at the end! While the basket blocks may look hard, they are really not, and all 6 different blocks have the same grid. The differences come through the use of color and the placement of half square triangle blocks. We will learn several ways to make half square triangles, one of the most versatile blocks in the world of quilting. One of the blocks has an appliqued handle, and both hand and machine applique techniques will be taught. The basket blocks are set on point, so the student will learn that technique, along with how to sew a quilt together with sashing and cornerstones. If time allows, we will explore simple machine quilting, and the making of bias binding. The project sample is 55” square, but the student may modify the size to make a larger or smaller quilt.
Class meets April 8, April 15, April 29 and May 6 and May 13.
Prerequisite: Must have made at least one quilt prior to taking the class, and be proficient with rotary cutting techniques
