Finish That Quilt! New Technology Makes It Easier!

Moore's Sewing Blog

Are you a quilt top collector – someone who makes beautiful quilt tops… but they never become a quilt?  You’re not alone. Many of us love the design and construction process… but actually quilting it can be daunting (especially if it’s really big!)

A community effort used to be the way to get it done…

New quilting technology makes it so much easier and faster to get your quilt done – with beautiful results – you’ll want to save your sewing social time for other fun sewing get togethers (check out our events and classes!) But before you ever get ready to quilt – new technology offers help in getting your quilt top precisely pieced – a laser guide will help you perfect your 1/4″ seams –

Your top’s done – what next?  Quilt it!

Create and customize your quilt design on a tablet!

Longarm quilting is the choice for many.  A longarm provides an easy way to quilt without struggling to get a large quilt (or even baby size!) moved around easily, evenly on your sewing machine. And your quilting is no longer limited to your own free motion skill – imagine creating a design for your block on a tablet you use right at your machine! Size your design to fit your block, use it in different sizes for a continuous theme but stitched out in different sizes on different blocks, create a design that reaches the block edge that you can repeat on each block for an edge-to-edge effect — and stitch it out! It’s almost like having an embroidery machine on your frame! The possibilities really are endless, and your stitching is beautiful every time! It’s like having a professional, automated quilting system – right at home!

Rulers – They’re not just for cutting fabric anymore!

Ruler work is one of the fastest growing quilting options! Whether on a longarm, sit down quilting machine or regular sewing machine, these new tools are helping produce gorgeous quilts – simple and intricate!  They’re not the rulers you use for fabric cutting – quilting rulers are thicker, and are used in conjunction with a special ruler foot. The two components are made to be compatible so the foot can ride alongside the ruler for precise stitching.  Never underestimate the value of a simple straight ruler to make straight line quilting even more precise – but there are rulers in sooo many shapes and sizes, curves, wiggles, circles, arcs, angles – you name it – we bet there’s one (or more!) for any quilting pattern in your imagination!

Groovy Boards!

Also called pantographs, these have been around for awhile but are still very popular and easy to use tools for beautiful longarm quilting! They’re simply guides that are placed on table/support behind the machine and a stylus is used to guide along the grooves – directing the stitching. Like rulers, there are so many designs and configurations you’re sure to find something just right for what you have in mind!
